Here's wishing all a safe and happy Fourth of July as America celebrates its 242nd birthday! This image was shot with an Olympus OM-4T and Tokina 80-200mm f2.8 lens on Tri-X film in Seaside, FL, at the end of the parade. I was covering the parade for the Walton Sun but I don't think the female editor saw the humor in this shot. I used the long reach and open aperture for this shot to help drive the interest.
This next image was from one of the last times I covered the Seaside parade in 2011. I had left the newspaper industry three years earlier as newspapers began to lose revenue. I was close to being laid off but found a job in a previous career to pay the bills. This image was shot on Tri-X film but with a Yashica Electro35 GS that had once belonged to my dad. As usual, I walked the parade route with the parade at a slower pace to let floats and rides pass me by as I walked. As this float approached, I noticed all the bubbles along with the bikinis and got ready for the shot. Just as I got ready to hit the shutter, the little boy pointed his water gun at me. For a second I was afraid he was going to squirt the camera but he held off long enough for me to get the shot.
Here is hoping everyone has a safe and happy Fourth!
As always, make a comment!! Let me know what you think! Until next time, keep on shooting...
