Surfer training

While looking for some photos of a tennis player, I happened on this shot taken in 2007. So I thought I would post it today. It was taken with a Nikon D2H and Tokina 2,8/300mm lens. I had other shots taken but with the lens aperture more wide open (f3.2) but this one I thought gives a pleasant out of focus effect while still allowing for recognition of the background.

The relaxed shooter...

This young lady was the yearbook photographer for Freeport High School when I got this shot back in 2010. I was no longer working for the little weekly because of the 2007-2008 recession but I was still enjoying shooting this high school sporting events. I never did anything with the majority of the images I took but I was able to keep a relationship with the school, its administrators, teachers and, most importantly, the student body.
It helped keep me feeling young and that maybe I still had a purpose in life. This young lady used to ask me for tips on getting the action shot. She was very inquisitive. I passed on what little knowledge I had but also suggested she work the fans as she is doing here. Having left that area back in 2012, I have no idea where she is today but I hope she is still shooting.

Traffic Stop

The local police was down on the square again. Still believe they are checking people with cellphones in their hands since the new "hands free" law went into effect for drivers. Not sure why this guy got stopped but he was quickly handcuffed and put into the police cruiser. The motorcycle officer joined the first officer quickly and they checked out the car that had been stopped. Took several shots from the side but then moved to this angle to get what I believe is a better composition.
This one will probably be placed in my "PAIRS" collection for future use.

Shoppers

Just a quick snap as we were doing our weekly grocery shopping. I saw the woman down by the eggs initially and, as she started toward me, she stopped to check out another item. Just then an man stopped at the eggs behind her and I grabbed the shot as they were both deciding on what to buy. Turns out the guy was trying to find the eggs that were on sale for 99 cents a dozen. My wife and I had already found out that they were sold out. We saw him later and told him that the store giving out "rain check" which could be redeemed for the dozen eggs at a later date for the sales price.

The motorcycle cop and pedestrian

Not really sure what this officer was doing but he was one of several that were working the square. As the older gentleman passed him I grabbed a shot for my "PAIRS" theme.
He stopped as he approached me and asked what was going on. My reply was I did not know. He thought it had to do with the recently passed law in Georgia that makes it unlawful to drive holding your cell phone in your hand. Sounded good to me.

REALLY!?

This young lady was just so animated I had to take a shot. Of the several images, I thought this one showed her the best!

DIGGERS!

Every once in a while I wander a little bit further away from the town square in search of something to catch my eye. These guys were digging up an entry into a local hardware business. I don't know why but I probably should have asked.

Thought it would make a good addition to my "PAIRS" theme.

Vault!

This business entry just struck me as strange so I thought I would take a shot. Never seen a door that was made to look like a vault.

TRAINS!

I have never done a lot of photographing of trains but wanted to play at bit with this shot. I happened to be roaming near the tracks when a train came rolling by. This was the last shot I took as the train rolled through the intersection. I cropped the image slightly to get rid of what I believed were distracting elements and then darkened the edges. I think the tracks and overall appearance of the elements drive the eye from left to right.

Smiling again!

This shot was taken at the same game but earlier after the home team had either scored or gotten a turnover (I don't remember which). I knew this lad from several years earlier when I had to cover an accident near the high school in which his favorite buddy was killed when he lost control of his truck. It was good to see him smiling and among friends.

One of the things I enjoyed about being a small-town newspaper shooter was the relationships I built over the years with some many people, young and old!
