Can you imagine the current U. S. Attorney General walking around Washington, D.C., without an entourage of security? This image shows the current Minister of Justice, Security and Integration Andin Bikker greeting our tour guide John in Oranjestad, Aruba. John was using a small handheld speaker to tell us about the island when he spotted Minister Bikker leaving a government building. After waving at us, Minister Bikker came over and talked with us for a few moments before heading off.
What was amazing is he was alone! I cannot imagine Jeff Sessions, the current U. S. Attorney General going out into public without a security detail but, then again, what do I know?
The next day, my wife and I were roaming around the capital of Curacao, Willemsted, and had taken a turn into the Governor's Palace and Fort Amsterdam which is permitted even though there is armed security around the place inside and out.
As we walked into the center of Fort Amsterdam, we noticed what I believe was a female Royal Netherlands officer. Did not think much about at the time as we began to roam in the center of the fort which is currently just a parking lot of the government employees and politicians including parking for the Governor of Curacao. After making our way around the circle of the buildings we headed back toward the entrance. As we got closer, we noticed the female officer was escorting a woman up the stairs into the Governor's Palace. I took a quick shot being in tourist mode and we continued on toward the entrance. As we past the stairs to the palace, we noticed the car the woman had come had a flag mounted to the front of it. As we continued on out the entrance, I stopped and asked the security guard who had just come into the fort. He replied casually "oh, that was the Governor." While we were not close enough to have gotten the Governor's attention, it was kinda cool we had seen and, in one case, spoken with foreign government politicians.
As always, make a comment!! Let me know what you think! Until next time, keep on shooting...
